Purpose of Site

Primary goal: to help anime, manga, and Japanese gaming fans learn Japanese that’s relevant to them.

Although I’m sure that a great proportion of the users who end up finding this site will be general Japanese learners – perhaps without the slightest inclination to watch anime – I really felt I needed my website to have a unifying theme, one that resonated with me. I needed it to be unique, and I needed a way to make it more appealing for me to work on as well.

Anime is very personal to me, and I want to share my love of it with the rest of the world. When I was starting out learning Japanese, there were very few quality sites I could turn to that had the kind of anime/manga-related content I was looking for. Some phrases that are very common in anime aren’t so easy to find in normal, everyday settings. I wished there was a place I could learn Japanese the way I really wanted to… in the context of the anime world.

What does Vianime provide?

This website basically consists of two sections:

  • In-depth Articles

These are longer posts that give very specific, detailed information, often for reference purposes. Could also be opinions.

  • Japanese Anime Phrases with Audio Clips

Think of these as examples for your practice. Each post is either a short phrase or some other kind of dialogue, with an audio clip taken from an anime. I usually provide a detailed commentary and explanation, so even beginners can take something away from these posts.

Where to Start?

Obligatory Disclaimer: I am neither a native Japanese speaker nor a Japanese teacher. I provide these materials because I love anime, I love Japanese language, and I love translating things. I am making this site because it is the kind of site I wish I could’ve had access to when I was learning Japanese. Find out more about who I am here.
